"I Am the Captain of My Soul"
"I am the master of my fate, I am the captain of my soul." The words of William E. Henley are inscribed on a sterling silver pendant with a 22 kt gold-plated brass compass rose overlay to help you captain your own soul. Henley, one of the first British poets to write in free verse, penned the words in 1875 for his poem "Invictus." Handmade by Kathy Bransfield in California.
UNCOMMON KNOWLEDGE: While in the hospital facing the amputation of his second foot (he had already lost one as a child), Henley befriended author Robert Louis Stevenson, and they collaborated on a few plays. Henley is actually the basis for Stevenson's famous character Long John Silver from the novel Treasure Island.
