Kentucky-based Ernie McElhannon’s career as an artist is long and diverse. Studying art education and sculpture, he first worked as a sculptor before transitioning to education, where he taught kindergarten through college. When Ernie’s son was in middle school, they collected the periodic table elements and were particularly fascinated with the 83rd, bismuth. After experimenting with the crystal creation process, Ernie was hooked and now crafts pieces featuring this kaleidoscopic element.
