What Makes This Mapped Memories Personalized Topography Wood Art Uncommon

As we journey across the mountains and valleys of life, we leave little pieces of our hearts in special places, trading them for everlasting memories we carry with us. Chart a course to the landmark closest to your heart with maker Alex Ahrens’ handmade wooden map. Select a location, then personalize it with details like names and a date—using precision lasers and traditional woodworking techniques, Alex transforms a solid block of maple hardwood into a topographic map of your chosen locale. Finished with a marker over the selected spot, this custom artwork is a thoughtful way to commemorate engagements, housewarmings, birthdays, and weddings.

  • Personalize with location name, couple or family name, and a special date.
  • Choose a point or heart for the location marker.
  • Measures 8" x 8".
  • Keyhole slot in back for hanging.
  • Handmade in Texas.

It may seem like a long way from aerospace engineering to woodworking, but Alex Ahrens finds common ground in precision and attention to detail. His high-tech training gave him an eye for spotting flaws and solving complex challenges: skills that now shape the pieces he creates in his Austin, Texas, studio. Time spent working in product and packaging design also gave him an appreciation for practical, well-designed objects that are attractive as well as user-friendly. Inspired by the trails, parks, and public lands that have marked meaningful moments in his own life, Alex uses elevation data and modern carving tools to create pieces that help others stay connected to the places they love.
