My boyfriend really does not like receiving/opening presents. He can afford to buy himself whatever he wants so he usually either already has it or it's something he won't use. Knowing this, I set out on a quest for the perfect gift. He loves to cook and he puts hot sauce on everything. I was looking up DIY projects on pinterest, and then it hit me...People make their own hot sauce all of the time, so there HAS to be a kit for it. Sure enough, here it was. I could tell when he was unwrapping it that he was trying to prepare to be excited so he wouldn't let ME down, but once he saw what it was he just goes "Oh...what? WOW! This is awesome. What a great gift. I can use it, I get to make something, and we can do it together. Where did you get this? I need to get one for my Dad. I'm impressed, I love this".
The box was tightly/securely packed so the glass bottles wouldn't clink around and all of the different spice/pepper packets were intact and neat in the box. SUCH a great idea, I'm sure I will order again.

Something's incomplete here

Why six bottles in kit if it makes only three bottles? Would prefer peppers in sealable plastic bags, not cellophane. You need to add other ingredients (veggies) to it, but no clue...Read complete review

Why six bottles in kit if it makes only three bottles? Would prefer peppers in sealable plastic bags, not cellophane. You need to add other ingredients (veggies) to it, but no clue as to what quantities are needed. Makes a nice novelty gift. We haven't tried to use the ingredients yet because it's no "instant gratification" product--it has to age for quite a while. Not a ripoff by any means, but not what I expected, either.

I agree the instructions are lacking...

By

from New Jersey

Comments about UncommonGoods Make Your Own Hot Sauce Kit:

My husband is excited to make his own hot sauce, but the lack of clarity in the instructions is holding him back from starting. The main issue is that the instructions do not specify how many of the peppers to grind up and then to use. All of them? Some of them? Even if the amount differs based on how hot you want the sauce to be, some ballpark information would be helpful.

The instructions (online under story) say "Remove stems from dried peppers (arbol for hot and guajillo for mild). Use provided gloves to protect your hands. Grind the peppers in a blender or food processor (seeds are okay). " The instructions included say "Remove the stems from the peppers you are using..." Again, the "how many" seems to be missing. My husband has now done a Google search and found elsewhere and found the recommendation to use 12 dried peppers per cup of water. I guess he will try that. And that will mean he will use most of the peppers included in the kit. I am giving the kit a 4 rating, with the assumption that the rest of the process will be clear and the hot sauce will turn out great in the end.

Has everything needed...I think! The directions were lacking and didn't really specify how much or what we needed outside of the ingredients included...definitely needed better instructions, not just one long paragragh.
