The Experience

Your best furry friend is perfectly happy with scritches and belly rubs, but you want to treat them to a whole new level of love. Just like people, dogs enjoy health benefits from regular massage and—bonus!—it’s a wonderful bonding experience for human and hound alike. Join certified dog massage therapist Ian Byrne for this live virtual class where you’ll learn expert techniques for giving your canine companion a rubdown that’ll be a wellness boost for both of you.

  • Ian will begin class with an introduction to dog massage, including a brief overview of canine physiology and psychology.
  • You’ll learn how to prep your pup for massage success, discover the five key areas to work on, and learn the most important stroke techniques.
  • Find out how to read your dog to understand what they love—and don’t like—so you can tailor your new skills and maximize the benefits of future sessions.
  • Please note: This class is not recommended for dogs with known aggression issues, certain diseases, areas of swelling, or some behavioral issues. Always consult with your veterinarian to ensure massage is right for you and your pooch.
Class length: 75 minutes.

About

Ian Byrne's love for dogs began with his grandfather's Labrador, Tara, who first taught him to interact with the canine kind. After a 10-year career in marketing, Ian decided to resign from his position as director of a Toronto agency and pursue a lifelong dream of working with dogs. He spent the next few years studying canine massage and traveling internationally to bring his therapeutic touch to shelter and rescue dogs around the world. Today, his living room doubles as a canine massage studio, where he not only cares for dogs but teaches others how to do the same.

Great Instructor & Class!

I wanted to learn this skill but don't enjoy watching static videos on YouTube, and the in-person class near me was booked out for months, so this is the perfect compromise. Ian is a GREAT instructor! Professional but still "real" and friendly. The handout is great too, I know I'll be using that for reference a lot. Even if we don't end up putting all of the "official" massage techniques into regular practice, even knowing a few will help us improve our "petting" and be more effective as reducing muscle soreness after runs. Thank you Ian and UG!

Awesome experience!

I had a great time with my dog taking this class. Ian provided clear instructions on techniques and what not to do. My girl Maddie really enjoyed the message and my other dogs are appreciative of my new skills as well. Also thankful for the guidebook to keep as a reference. Great bonding experience for you and your pup!

This was a Christmas present to my dog (and myself) and was absolutely worth it! Ian did a great job teaching all the techniques and making adjustments depending on the dog's size. While my pup is still young, it feels great to know the massage and stroke techniques that will help her as she ages!
