Hot, Cold & Just Right

Steven Chavez and Justin English's platter takes full advantage of the incredible thermal properties of soapstone to keep garlic bread, brie, and oven-baked appetizers hot, and sushi, chocolate, or cheese cool and fresh. Simply place the soapstone in the freezer in advance of serving cold food, or in the oven before serving hot food, to prevent lukewarm disappointment when your guests get to the table. Once it's prepared to the desired temperature, the wood caddy protects the platter (and your table) and incorporates handles for carrying. The natural color variations and marbling of soapstone make each platter unique, and it may be heated or chilled to any desired temperature. Made in India.

If you like the Oven-to-Table Entertainment Platter, you will also enjoy the Hot and Cold Soapstone Serving Platter!

Due to the handmade nature of this item, each is unique and will vary.

About 80% of all soapstone quarried is deemed waste or scrap material. In an effort to regain control of this waste and turn it into something useful, Steven Chavez and Justin English set out to clean up the quarries and find a purpose for the discarded stone.

Soapstone is one of the most effective natural materials on earth for conducting and retaining temperature, so Steven and Justin turned to these natural properties to handcraft a beautiful line of soapstone kitchen and barware. They've recently expanded into stainless steel, bringing the same level of sophisticated design and utility to entertaining ware. Their company is based in Denver, where the majority of the products are handcrafted.

Made from
soapstone, American ash wood
Measurements
Platter:15.75" L x 7.5" W x 0.5" H; approximately 6 lbs.
Wooden Caddy: 18.5" L x 9" W
Ingredients
Care
Soapstone is dishwasher safe. Do not submerge wooden carrier into water; wipe clean with a cloth.

It takes about 1 hour for the stone to fully freeze; if you’re just wanting it to be chilled, 30 minutes would suffice. It begins heating up immediately when placed in an oven. After 20-30 minutes, it is extremely hot and ready to bake on (can be heated up to 500 degrees).

Handle the stone with care; do not use the stone as a cutting board, as any knife will leave a scratch.

Once chilled or heated, the stone will stay cold or warm for approximately 45 minutes.

This was a gift, but the recipients have stated that they really love how it looks and is something useful and practical.

Good not great

The stone has a wobble in the holder. The stone is also not cut with true square edges. I bypassed other products and paid more for this one thinking I would avoid the quality issues reported. While mine is intact and presentable, it was not the high quality I tend to purchase.

Love this.

5

My son gave me this for Christmas. Arrived in great shape and was very pleased. While the tray could have been made out of cherry or walnut it would have been much more expensive. The craftsmanship and staining on mine is great. Some commented on no instructions in box. This is so common these days however I did receive a nice card with heating, cooling and washing instructions. Maybe some production and packaging overseeing would be valuable.

Oven to table entertaining platter

The stone is beautiful. The wood tray needed paint or varnish. My husband painted it black to match our Kitchen.(Red & Black) It went really well with the stone. It will b a perfect center piece at Happy Hour.

Cheap, overpriced, poorly made

1

Trying to decide whether to return all 3 bought as gifts or not. Wooden tray looked like it was made in 9th grade shop class, not quality or even close, cheap pine, poorly finished, embarrassing to sell as an "uncommon good"

Thriied with the Oven to Table Entertaining Platter

5

After reading some of the reviews about the quality and look of the wooden tray, I was hesitant to purchase the Platter for a friend. However, I was thrilled upon opening the Platter to find that the wood was lovely and seemed well crafted.

Sending it back....

1

Unfortunately, I'm sending this back. The quality did not meet my expectations for the price of the piece. The wooden holder is not finished/stained well and feels very flimsy. The soapstone piece is very thin and seems as if it would have the potential to break easily.

I got this as a Christmas gift and it is terrible

1

We opened presents for Christmas early. There were no instructions and I had to look it up on this website to figure exactly what it did. The wooden base is made out of cheap wooden material and would never stand 500 degrees. In looking at the picture of the soapstone, the piece I have is half as thick so the quality is misrepresented. I would appreciate you sending the money back to my sister since I feel this item is truly a waste of money for her. I can give you my sisters' information to verify the purchase.

Arrived very damaged

1

This serving piece arrived with a large piece of the soapstone broken off. The wooden caddy was also broken and poorly stained. Cheap looking product--not nearly as nice as the on line photo. Disappointed.
