Great gift for a family remembrance

Great workmanship and a wonderful idea

Perfect!

This was absolutely perfect! My mom wrote out a fresh copy of our family recipe and it was exactly her writing. It was a Christmas gift and everyone loved it! It arrived in the time promised. I would definitely consider ordering this again as a gift! #sweepstakes

Very satisfied

Ordered this as part of a Christmas gift. The final product turned out very nice. The recipe was previously written on a piece of paper well over 30+ years old, and was very light and faded. It was transferred to the board very clearly. Definitely recommend if you're interested in buying one.

Make Sure You Read The Suggestions

We ordered one from a hand written page but the engraving is so light that you can't see it from 5 feet away. Pay attention to what they are requesting and make sure your lines are thick/dark enough.

Becareful Of The Source You Send

We sent a handwritten recipe on 81/2 x 11 paper and what we got back was so faint that you would think it was a plain cutting board from 10 feet. Quality looks good just make sure your recipes handwriting is big enough.

Happy Customer :D

I recently ordered this for my mom to preserve, showcase and have passed down, something very meaningful to the family. And, wow, beautifully done! Excellent craftsmanship, attention to detail and handmade feel just add to the uniqueness of the recipe itself. Thank you!

Had to be done 2x but the new one still had an error

Very beautiful board and the etching was pretty but the title of the recipe of my board (the family name) was incorrect so we had to get another one. I ended up gifting this 3 weeks late and the replacement also had a typo on it in the body. Its pretty, just bummed as the text I provided did not have any of these issues.

Response from merchant

Thank you for posting, we're so sorry to hear that the replacement also had an error. We know you've already gifted it but if you'd like to share some photos or even more details, we'd be happy to look into this further. We've passed this onto our team and emailed you privately.

A Special Way to Commemorate a Family Recipe

Surprising my family with this commemorative recipe cutting board brought my father and brother to tears. They remarked being so appreciative of this gift that brought the handwriting and specific instructions for the perfect lasagna as noted on a recipe card by my mother who had recently passed. The cutting board is beautifully crafted and imprints the recipe well onto the cutting board. The board is so visually stunning and striking and well crafted that my family has it prominently displayed in their kitchen so that a little bit of Mom is always there to support to support our culinary adventures. This is a great gift that I highly recommend for any occasion.

FAQs

Yes, a faded or old handwritten recipe can be successfully engraved onto the cutting board. Even recipes written on paper that is 30+ years old and very light have been transferred clearly and beautifully onto the board. For best results, it's recommended to use a high-contrast scan — if the original document is faded, tracing over it with an ultra-fine tip black Sharpie before scanning can significantly improve the clarity of the final engraving.

The handwritten recipe cutting board is available in at least two wood options: cherrywood and maple. The wood type does affect how the engraving appears — maple is a lighter wood, which allows the etched handwriting to show up with greater contrast and visibility. Cherrywood has a darker, more pronounced grain that can make the engraving appear slightly fainter. If maximum legibility is a priority, maple tends to produce a crisper, more striking result.

A handwritten recipe cutting board can be used both as a functional cutting board and as a display piece — it truly serves dual purposes. Many people use it to serve crackers and cheese, as a countertop display for easy recipe reference, or as everyday kitchen décor. Some owners choose to display it exclusively to preserve the engraving, while others use it regularly. Care instructions are included with the board to help maintain it over time.

A personalized handwritten recipe cutting board is widely considered one of the most meaningful gifts you can give someone who has lost a loved one. Having a cherished family recipe preserved in a deceased person's actual handwriting has moved recipients to tears and given families a lasting, tangible connection to someone they've lost. It transforms a simple kitchen item into a deeply personal keepsake — one that keeps a loved one's presence alive in the kitchen for generations.

There is no limit to how many personalized recipe cutting boards you can order, and the quality holds up across multiple orders. Some shoppers have ordered as many as 10 boards as gifts, with each one turning out beautifully. Results are consistent when you follow the submission instructions carefully — particularly by providing a high-contrast scan of the handwritten recipe. The boards are well-crafted enough that recipients consistently describe them as functional pieces of art.

Customer questions

Does it have to be a recipe? I have card game rules that I would like to have engraved.

Verified reply from Maxienne

As long as it fits the scanned image guidelines, any text will work.

When you say "engraved" do you mean cut into the wood or printed on top of the wood?

Verified reply from Itamar

These boards are engraved in a physical process. Not printed images

Can I order 4 boards of the same recipe?

Verified reply from Jasmine

Hello. Yes you can!

Hello. Is it possible to engrave an image instead of text? Specifically the outline of a state with a heart indicating the location of a wedding?

Verified reply from Michael

I'm sorry, The artist is unable to accommodate this request.

Can I submit a copy of a recipe that was typed on a typewriter, and keep it in that layout instead of having you change it to a script font?

Verified reply from Allison

Yes! Take a photo or scan it to upload it when ordering the 'scanned recipe board' option.

Should I make my scan the size that I want etched onto the board or do you guys custom fit it to fill out the board best?

Verified reply from Cassandre

The artist will custom fit the scanned recipe on the board for the best outcome.

I have a recipe that has a large flower on the card. I'm assuming that couldn't be etched, but could you just block out the flower and etch the recipe??

Verified reply from Leslie

Hello! Whatever is on the card will be etched; if you don't want the flower to show make sure it's not on the scan. Here are some tips for getting the best scan: https://www.uncommongoods.com/pdf/personalizedfamilyrecipeboard.pdf

For the cutting board engraved with a recipe, is it text only or are design elements allowed? Thank you!

Verified reply from Amy

Hi Alison! It is pretty much text only. As you can see in the customer photos, lines and asterisks and small markings in handwriting are fine (like ones you'd see on a keyboard), but no major design elements.

My recipe card has writing on both sides of the card. Is this ok? How will this turn out on the board?

Verified reply from Leslie

Hello! You can scan both sides of the card and if possible it will be sized so it fits on one side. The board itself cannot be engraved on both sides. If you have any other questions, fee free to contact us at help@uncommongoods.com.

Can 2 different recipes be engraved on the front and the back? Will the script be preserved after multiple washings ?

Verified reply from Allison

The recipe can only be etched on one side. We recommend washing with warm soapy water, rinse thoroughly, and towel dry. Let it stand upright, never flat, to dry.
