Insults With Intelligence

We all know someone who deserves to be dubbed a "penurious and indubitate beggar." And from time to time, you may be tempted to say that "he has not so much brain as ear-wax." This rollicking infographic is chock-full of such colorful insults from Shakespeare, the playwright who practically invented the art of the poetic put-down. Designer Tim Sanders culled the Oxford Complete Shakespeare to compile an endlessly entertaining word map of the Bard's boisterous, bawdy jabs, each one a mini-masterpiece of raunchy, rancorous Renaissance wit. The four-color, offset-printed poster on 100 lb., acid-free, FSC-certified paper makes the perfect reference and decor for an astute office, library, or thespian lounge. Made in Seattle.

Add our solid walnut framing rails that magnetically hold your print in place. Easy to install and reuse, they’re a cleverly designed solution for print display.

Tim and Aurelia Sanders think people should enjoy more mirth. They mixed together data visualization, writing, and humor to create artwork that was smart as well as funny. Their process begins with a mix of ideas and sketches, which are gradually refined through research, experimentation, and "occasional hair pulling." Timothy employs his background as an art director and playwright, and Aurelia keeps their projects well edited and on track. "It's a great pleasure to see a passerby stop at one of our posters, lean in close, and start to laugh," they say.

Have a peek at Tim's sketchbooks to see how his thought process works as he creates new posters.

I had been expecting a book, not a poster, so I was a little surprised and disappointed when the product arrived. Based on the product title, "A Grand Treasury of Shakespearean Insults," I had expected a book, not a poster, and that the image was that of the cover. It was my fault for not reading the description, but perhaps the word "chart" or "poster" should be added to the product name. It was on back order, so there was no time to return it before Christmas for something else.

My brother is a huge Shakespear fan and I bought this for him for Christmas. Very good quality paper it's made out of. I bought it without a frame and framed it myself.

Comments about UncommonGoods Shakespearean Insults Chart:

I got it for my father's birthday, thinking he could hang it up in his office and use it as a reference for when people at his office are being silly/dumb. We both love Shakespeare and I thought it'd be a fun way to incorporate that into his work day.

Comments about UncommonGoods Shakespearean Insults Chart:

We love how cleverly this 'chart' is laid out and the beautiful colors. Also, the quality of poster paper is very high. For now we put it in a store-bought frame, but will eventually invest in having it custom framed. Definitely a keeper!

My dad was a huge fan of this poster! He thought it was absolutely wonderful (as a man who randomly quotes Shakespeare) and is framing it and looking for a home for it on his wall!
