Immediately started splintering

I have been buying from Uncommon Goods for years adn am super disappointed that they would sell such a low quality product at such a high price. I thought the price seemed high for what it was, but because I have always received good quality items from this company, I decided this product must be worth the price. I bought it as a gift and the first time it was used, pieces of it splintered off into the food being cut. It is an incredibly cheap product, that you can't even run your hand over without receiving splinters. It's not even worth $10, let alone almost $100.

Can this work over a burner that is turned off but still warm?

We would suggest not putting it over a burner that is still hot, since the item is made from real wood. Once the burner is almost fully cooled down, it should be fine!
