Cute but not long lasting

I bought two. One never worked. The other worked great until it didn't. Was hoping just needed a new battery after a few months. But seems instead that whatever circuit makes this works is unreliable.

how do I install a battery? No directions included

Verified reply from Monique

The Planter Water Alarm doesn’t come with printed instructions in the box. To install a battery, locate the battery compartment. It’s on the underside of the alarm. Open the cover. Slide or snap it open. Insert the battery. Connect the battery to the snap connector inside the compartment. Place it securely in the slot. Close the compartment Make sure the cover clicks back into place. Test the alarm Once powered, the light will flash green every 30 minutes when the soil is moist. It will show red when the soil is dry, reminding you to water.

is this meant to live in the flower pot, or can it be used to test multiple plants quickly. In other words, how quickly does it "read" the moisture levels?

Verified reply from Allison

This plant alarm checks moisture at the root level and gives you immediate notification of the plants water status. Flashing red? Your plant needs water. Flashing green means your plant is hydrated!
