What Makes Mahjong Playaway Travel Card Set Uncommon

A timeless game that transcends cultures, generations, and communities, mahjong was developed in the mid-to-late 1800s in southern China, and made its way to the United States in the 1920s. Traditionally played with small, rectangular tiles, they can sometimes be intimidating—and expensive—to approach for newer players. This unique, travel-ready set offers a beginner-friendly entry point to the game by swapping plastic and acrylic pieces for playing cards. Reimagined with original artwork that blends modern style with classic design, it’s a unique way to learn American Mahjong and take your new favorite game on the go.

  • Compact and lightweight card format is easier to transport than traditional tiles.
  • Great for beginners and those who want to take mahjong on-the-go.
  • Includes 160 cards, two pearlescent dice, travel-friendly magnetic closure box, and instructions.
  • Made in China.

Usually ships within 24 hours.

This set is beautiful

These cards are beautiful; the pictures on them are works of art. With the mahjong tiles you have a rack to set up your tiles for game play; I'm not sure how the cards are to be set up. Is there a card rack? Holding them in your hand seems cumbersome. I haven't played with them yet but am excited to try with my friends. This set is boxed beautifully and would make a great gift!

Beautiful Cards, Exceptional Quality

The cards are beautiful and easy to read. Nice thick cards, pretty dice, and thick storage box with magnetic closure…even an instruction card for adapting the game to cards…I am thrilled with value and look of this purchase! Other than rule cards, this set has everything you need!
