A perfect stroll down memory lane!
I bought this for my soon-to-be father-in-law for his 80th birthday, and both he and my mother-in-law were extremely touched and impressed. Due to his failing health, he spends a lot of time watching tv or reading, and this will hopefully provide ample opportunity for him to reminisce, and for me to get to know him better through it. A perfect gift.

Perfect birthday gift
I purchased this for my grandmothers 90th birthday. She is an AVID NYT reader and has been reading daily as long as I know of. She also loves history and has an incredible memory. This book allows her to look back at how the world has changed in her lifetime. It gives an interesting tool for her to share that history and her perspective of what it was like with others

Don't understand the great reviews.
Sorry but this would be the last thing I would buy someone as a gift. The idea is great. Except you can't see the contents. The print is so small and the cheap magnifying device doesn't even help. I don't even have bad up-close vision and I found myself struggling to read each item to the point where I had to give up. I feel bad for my daughter who spent the money on this useless gift. I barely read three pages and struggled with them. Think twice about purchasing this especially if it's for an elderly person - I guarantee you they won't be able to read it.
Response from merchant
Thank you for sharing your experience. We're truly sorry this gift didn't land the way your daughter intended — that's such a thoughtful gesture, and we hate to hear it was disappointing. These pages are reproduced from original newspapers and reformatted to fit a book-sized layout, which can result in smaller print. Some pages sourced from microfilm may also have finer text. We do our best to reflect this through our product images and description. We're sorry the 2.8x magnifying glass crafted from pewter and poplar wood didn't help as hoped. If there's anything we can do to make this right, please don't hesitate to reach out — we're always happy to assist.

I purchased this for my girlfriend for a big milestone birthday. She was super happy with it as a unique and thoughtful gift (especially as an ex NY-er).

Great milestone birthday gift
I purchased this as an 80th birthday gift for a parent. They absolutely love it and are constantly sharing stories from previous birthdays. For older recipients, I'd recommend the version with a magnifying glass as the print is quite small.
FAQs
1. What is the New York Times Birthday Book and what does it include?
The New York Times Birthday Book is a personalized keepsake that collects the front page of the New York Times from every birthday of the recipient's life. The book features the recipient's name and birth date embossed on the cover in gold, and each page showcases the headlines and news stories from that specific date each year — making it a one-of-a-kind record of world events tied to their life.
2. Is the New York Times Birthday Book a good gift for elderly recipients or someone turning 80, 90, or older?
The New York Times Birthday Book is an outstanding gift for elderly recipients turning 80, 90, or even older — in fact, the older the recipient, the more meaningful and extensive the book becomes. Buyers who gave it to grandparents and parents in their 80s and 90s found that the sheer number of pages and the span of history made it especially poignant and fascinating. For recipients whose eyesight may be limited, it's worth adding the magnifying glass option, as the newspaper print can be small.
3. How is the New York Times Birthday Book packaged, and is it suitable for gifting without additional wrapping?
The New York Times Birthday Book arrives in sturdy, thoughtfully designed packaging that is gift-ready right out of the box. The book itself features a high-quality cover with gold embossing, and the binding is described as excellent — making the entire presentation feel premium and intentional. Many buyers noted the packaging alone impressed recipients before they even opened the book.
4. What size is the New York Times Birthday Book, and is it easy to read through?
The New York Times Birthday Book is a large, coffee table-style book, which makes the newspaper front pages easy to browse and read. The generous size means the historical headlines and content are clearly visible, though a magnifying glass may be helpful for older recipients reading the smaller newsprint text. The larger format also makes it a natural conversation piece that family and friends will want to flip through together.
5. Is the New York Times Birthday Book a good gift for someone who is hard to shop for or already has everything?
The New York Times Birthday Book is widely considered one of the best gifts for someone who is hard to shop for or seems to have everything. Because it is personalized with the recipient's name and tied directly to their life's timeline of world events, it feels deeply thoughtful without being overly personal — striking a rare balance that makes it work for bosses, parents, spouses, and friends alike. Buyers consistently report that even self-described gift-averse recipients were genuinely moved and couldn't stop sharing it with others.

Hello- what if the birthday is a holiday or near a holiday (for example Christmas Eve), did the NYT print papers each year on the day? If not, do you use the next day? Is there a way to determine that before I order? Thank you!
Verified reply from Michelle
Hi! Historically, the New York Times has been printed on most holidays, if there is no paper on the date requested in any give year for any reason that day/year would be just be omitted, they would not select an alternative day.

If I want the book to contain the current year's front page, how long after the date should I order it? Can I order it next day?
Verified reply from Sofia
Hello! The front page for today is added in early morning (or on Mondays for weekend pages). If you want today's date included in your book, you can order it that day or later. Thanks for posting!

If the recipient's birthday is an anniversary or yearly occurrence of an event (I.e. 9/11) would all the headlines be the same?
Verified reply from Michelle
Hi! The headlines would reflect the news of that day, so yes if there was a significant event that is featured annually then the headlines would feature it.
