Bloggers Who Believe It’s Better to Give

October 27, 2016

Thanksgiving Day is less than one month away, which means that we are officially entering the eye of the holiday season! (Cue “Eye of the Tiger.”)

Between between hours of travel, days of holiday dinner prep, and months of coordinating reunions with loved ones, it can be hard to take the time to plan anything that doesn’t revolve around your own seasonal traditions.

But there’s no denying that taking the time to give back is invaluable. All year long, we offer our customers the chance to give back through our Better to Give program. With every purchase you make, we’re proud to donate $1 to a Better to Give partner of your choice (at no cost to you). This year, we want to make sure that giving back is part of your holiday planning. So, we turned to our community to spread the word about our Better to Give program.

September 2, 2016

Greater New Orleans Foundation

Here at UncommonGoods, it’s our policy to use business as a force for good. Through our Better to Give program, it’s important to us that we connect our customers with organizations that impact the world in a positive way. In the wake of the historic floods that have devastated southeast Louisiana, we have partnered with the Greater New Orleans Foundation to help raise donations for its NOLA Pay It Forward Fund: Helping Families in Neighboring Parishes. The Fund will provide resources for the early relief and rebuilding efforts of those communities impacted by the recent floods.

Uncommon Impact: Counting Beads, Caramel, and the IRC

June 22, 2016

As a certified B Corporation, UncommonGoods is excited about sustainability. That means more to us than just being “green”–we strive to offer products that reflect the environmental and social best-interests of everyone. So, when our makers are as concerned with sustainability as we are, we’re always eager to learn more about their process and the positive impact they’re having on the world.

While many of our makers rely on sustainable practices at one point or another in their process, we’re especially excited about those who place the wider world at the forefront of their craft–those who are making an uncommon impact.

Baby Behavior & Bangs for Your Buck: Announcing Our #Momisms Contest Winners

May 6, 2016

In preparation for Mother’s Day, we teamed up with our friends at Mental_Floss to collect your most wow-worthy #Momisms, from the hilarious and sometimes embarrassing “I can’t believe she just said that” mom texts, to the heartwarming times when mom really did know best.

We expected to find zany witticisms and sage advice from moms and grandmas, but we had no idea we’d get so many great entries–making it pretty hard to pick just two winners.

We had a great time giggling over the witty, sassy, creative, and insightful ideas that moms and grandmas can conjure up. We couldn’t stand the thought of not sharing the joy from this contest, so before we get our #Momisms winners, we’ve rounded up our favorite quips and quotes for you to enjoy!

Our planet has been called the “Goldilocks planet.” Just like in the story of “Goldilocks and the Three Bears,” conditions on Earth have been considered “just right” for living things to exist (at least compared to other planets). As we know it now, it’s warm, but not too warm to function. And it has water, but not too much water to drown us all, or too little water to dry out the entire planet. Since Earth Day first launched 46 years ago, it’s no secret that if there aren’t major changes on how we treat our planet, that things won’t be “just right” in the future.
