Celebrate #GivingTuesday with Us!

Celebrate #givingtuesday | UncommonGoods

As a business that specializes in one-of-a-kind, handmade merchandise, we don’t typically offer site-wide promotions. Shop ’til you drop deals, such as those advertised on Black Friday and Cyber Monday, are not part of our DNA. (Though that doesn’t mean we don’t offer goods on sale!)

But what is stored within our DNA is a commitment to giving back, an instinct to use business as a force for good.

Since 2001, we’ve been able to build a better business by connecting our customers with non-profit organizations around the globe. With every purchase you make, we’re proud to donate $1 to the non-profit partner of your choice through our Better to Give program (at no cost to you).

As we commemorate the 15th year of our donation program, Better to Give is about to get even better. We’re celebrating #GivingTuesday on November 29!

In honor of the fifth annual global day of giving back, we are doubling our Better to Give donations for all orders placed on November 29. That means we’re donating $2 on your behalf to the organization you choose at checkout.

Additionally, we’re calling on our social media followers to celebrate the people in their lives who give back. Know someone who selflessly donates time, money, or skills to better the world? Make sure to look out for our Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram posts on Giving Tuesday and tag that selfless special someone to win our giveaway of “gifts that give back,” a collection of items that are designed to be a force for good. (Don’t forget to tell us why you tagged your friend!)

On November 30, we’ll randomly select one of the special people you tagged to win these four gifts that give back, each of which is related to the mission of our four Better to Give partners:

Counting Beads Necklace | UncommonGoods

Counting Beads Necklace
Modeled after counting beads that health workers use to take toddlers’ vitals in remote parts of the world, these strands of hematite and agate are stylish statements with a purpose. In remote communities, International Rescue Committee (IRC)-trained health workers use counting beads to diagnose pneumonia, the leading cause of death in children under five. As a timer counts 60 seconds, the health worker counts one bead per breath. If more than 49 beads are counted, the child is breathing too fast– a red flag for pneumonia. The eye-catching beads can be worn as a wrap bracelet or necklace, and 25% of profits from their sale goes to the IRC to further their vital work around the world.
Long Distance Touch Lamps | UncommonGoods

Long Distance Touch Lamps – Set of 2
Light up a loved one’s life—from anywhere in the world—with two or more of these in-sync lamps. Each person sets up their lamp via Wifi, then reaches out and touches the lamp whenever they want to let their loved one know they’re thinking of them. The LED lamps are hand-assembled and tested by members of the Wichita Women’s Initiative Network—a nonprofit community partnership in Kansas that provides survivors of abuse with educational and employment opportunities—assuring that this piece designed to share love is also made with it.

Give Every Tuesday | American Forests | UncommonGoods

As you may have seen on social media, we’ve been prepping for Giving Tuesday all month long through our #GiveEveryTuesday campaign, where we honored each of our non-profit partners during every Tuesday leading up to this week. In addition to offering our partners an additional 15% lift in donations on each of their designated Tuesdays, we challenged our social media followers to engage with our Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram posts that promoted each partner. As part of #GiveEveryTuesday, we promised that the partner with the most popular posts on their Tuesday would receive an extra $1 on Giving Tuesday for every like, comment, and share. Congratulations to American Forests for earning the most social engagement during #GiveEveryTuesday! Thanks to all of you, we will be donating an additional $267 to American Forests.

Thank you to all of our customers and non-profit partners who participated in #GiveEveryTuesday. We can’t wait to celebrate #GivingTuesday with all of you.
