Barebones Living was founded in 2012, but founder Robert Workman was thinking about how to use the business to support global humanitarian efforts even before the company was launched. Their first products were “imagined, designed, and developed... to help people provide for their own basic needs.”

Since the beginning, Robert and his team have been working to use their goods, and a portion of the profits generated through them, to bring humanitarian relief to those in need. They’ve provided tents for shelter and to house clinics in the wake of earthquakes in Nepal and worked with rural villages to provide education and economic opportunities in Africa. They've also worked closer to home, partnering with nonprofit organizations to transform unused public land into a thriving community garden and orchard in Utah, where the company is based.

As a purpose-driven organization, their goal is creating products that “inspire connection with nature and elevate the experience of life outdoors.” Becoming a B Corp in 2016 gave them new opportunities to measure successes and improvements as they work to use their products, profits, and experience to impact positive change: “We are focused on long-term, sustainable solutions... it’s not our ‘giveback.’ It is who we are.”
