This Just In-spiration: Meet Carol Joannidi

November 15, 2016

Our makers never fail to motivate us, encourage our creativity, and fill us with inspiration. So, when a new design enters our assortment, we’re always excited to learn more about the people behind the product.

What gets an artist going and keeps them creating is certainly worth sharing, and every great connection starts with a simple introduction. Meet Carol Joannidi, creator of the Sterling Silver Bubble Earrings, and the Bollywood Earrings.

When did you know you wanted to be an artist?

Since childhood. I was lucky enough to grow up around incredibly creative people who influenced me tremendously.

What was the most exciting thing about becoming a professional artist?

When a person is moved by something that I’ve created. My favorite example is once when I was visiting a local store during the holidays, a client began crying when she put on a necklace that took an entire season to conceptualize.

What does your typical day in the studio look like?

Coffee and morning meeting with my partner, Dana, who handles all back-of-shop activities. Then usually hand forming of shapes or stone picking, and an afternoon of hammering, sanding, and torch work.

Is there a trinket, talisman, or other inspirational object you keep near? If so, what is it and what does it mean to you?

My studio is surrounded by art collected from friends and family that continue to inspire. Photographs of the little cat that gave me my business name and two new cats that bring a smile to my face everyday.

Imagine you just showed your work to a kindergartner for the first time. What do you think they would say?

Depends on the imagination of the child. Sometimes they’ll see a butterfly wing, Legos, or a setting sun.

What quote or mantra keeps you motivated?

Balance.
