Loaded Dice

Dice have been around for thousands of years, but artist William Manke still found a way to rethink the familiar numbered squares. His clever design shows the face value of each side with 1 to 6 wood segments of different color tones, made of walnut, maple, and cherry wood. Handsome enough to display when they're not involved in games of Backgammon, Bunco, Farkle, Yahtzee, Craps, or Pig, these beautifully crafted pieces make wonderful gifts for game lovers, woodworking fans, and anyone with an appreciation for exquisite small objects. Handmade in Lakewood, Colorado.

Sold in pairs.

Due to the handmade nature of this item, each is unique and will vary.

William Manke is a sculptor, craftsman and game lover living in Lakewood, Colorado. His creations re-interpret familiar elements of classic games with an unexpected elegance that makes you look twice. He looks at games not only as a canvas but also as a medium. Manke earned his BFA from Kent State University in sculpture where he dug into sound art, kinetic sculpture and design. He began exploring game making as art when a fellow artist challenged him to make a wooden pinball machine – which he did.

We mostly use this to add to our dice collection. It would be amazing if they came in formats other than d6, as it would be a fun challenge to read them during gaming. It would also be nice if they were a bit heavier. But they are beautiful to look at.

Wooden dice with a twist

I thought this was very cool and so did my husband. This isn't just dice made out of wood, it's a completely different design of dice and adds a bit of a challenge when using them. Haven't used them in a game yet but I'm sure it will be fun.

Beautiful enough for display, but fully functional as dice.

My wife and I are continually visiting craft studios, galleries of local art and independent stores looking for new items of interest. It's rare that something really jumps out and grabs your attention, but these dice were unlike any we'd ever seen, and beautifully made. The creative packaging would definitely make the dice a fun gift.
