The Uncommon Life

Buyer’s Dilemma

October 5, 2010

Right now we’re making our final picks for the catalog we’ll send to you in January. Remember the sari scarf? We carry these beautiful handmade scarves in turquoise and cinnamon.

Our buyer Erin is in the middle of deciding what new colors to bring in. She just sent me this email:

“Saris are by nature brightly colored and full of prints, so I’ve got a lot of color options to choose from. Since the patchwork look is such a big trend right now, it made sense to make a scarf of different contrasting colors that also complement each other. I’ve got the photographs of the sari scarf samples and they all look so fantastic, I need help deciding which scarf to feature in our catalog.”

Blue and Purple

Red and Cream

Orange, Green and Yellow

Purple and Pink

Well I’m turning it over to you. Help Erin decide, by leaving a comment for your favorite color combo. Thanks for your help!

  • Reply Teri October 5, 2010 at 11:27 pm

They are all beautiful, but I think the orange, green, yellow would be the most versatile.

  • Reply Erin October 6, 2010 at 1:06 am

    Orange green and yellow please!

  • Reply Lindsey October 6, 2010 at 9:17 am

I love the purple and pink, but you can’t go wrong with any of those choices.

They are all lovely, my question is what else is on the spread? Choose the colors that coordinate with other items on the catalog spread, giving the pages a unified and pleasing look.

This has been my experience in the past.

Also, have you purchased more of one color than the other? If so, feature that color. As the color featured will be the one predominately sold.

    Best of luck.

  • Reply Emily October 7, 2010 at 8:42 am

Blue and Purple. Even though my favorite color is orange, the blue and purple one really caught my eye.

  • Reply Jessica Ross October 7, 2010 at 8:43 am

With Valentine’s Day not too far around the corner from your catalog date, I’d be looking at the red and cream combo for sure. A little burst of color in the middle of winter is always refreshing.

  • Reply Heather October 7, 2010 at 8:45 am

Feature the Purple and Pink one. (I really like the Blue and Purple and the Red and Cream, but since you already feature Turquoise and Cinnamon I think you should go with someone different than those. The Orange, Green and Yellow one is OK, but I much prefer the colors in the Purple and Pink one.)

If the catalog drop was in Fall, I would say the orange & green one (fall colors). But, since the catalog drop is in Jan (pre Valentines), the gorgeous RED is a must! Rich jewel tones, beautiful fabric patterns intermingled, it’s a beautiful “pull me outta the winter doldrums” scarf!

  • Reply Stephanie October 7, 2010 at 10:38 am

Blue and purple. This one stands out, is elegant and simple. The others look like something everyone else carries.

I would like to send samples to uncommon goods. Our company is 42 years old. We publish spiritual items as well as educational games and playing cards. To whom should I direct a catalogue and samples.

    Love your catalogue.
