Spice on Ice

Raised on Tennessee BBQ, spicy drinks lover Jutta Lafley couldn't find a cocktail syrup that hit her sweet (and spicy) spot, so she experimented until she came up with one herself. Her fragrant, delicious simple syrups are crafted in small batches with fresh produce and herbs, slow-cooked to extract the heat and complexity of the peppers. They're then poured into beautiful glass bottles you definitely won't want to hide away in the cupboard. Each makes 10 to 15 drinks, depending on how hot you like yours. Choose Jalapeno Hex or Habanero Basil. Handmade in Kentucky.

Born and raised in Memphis, Julia Lafley grew up on her hometown's sweet, spicy, and smoky BBQ and her New Orleans native mother's Creole dishes, so it was destined that she'd crave spicy drinks as an adult. When she couldn't find a cocktail syrup that her palate said "YES!" to, she experimented until she made her own. Starting her own business "has been a wonderful adventure," she says, adding, "I still taste test every batch to ensure that both the complexity and heat of the peppers is right."
