Glass From The Past
Luminous and tactile, these ravishing clusters of recycled glass are handmade by artist Laura Bergman from the crushed remains of antique beer, soda and dairy bottles (multi-colored) and Mason jars (blue) dating between 1900 and 1960. Scouring the rural woodlands of Pennsylvania Amish Country to collect stray bottles posing an environmental hazard to local wildlife, Bergman carefully cleans and fuses artful morsels into light-catching drops that preserve the original ruby, green, navy and amber-tinted glass. To create the crisp, blue pendants, Bergman uses 1940s-era Mason Jars exclusively.
Each set fuses a beautiful moment in time from the early decades of the historic 20th century.
Dime-sized lightweight glass pendants hang on shapely sterling silver hooks. Includes an item-specific story detailing the age and origin of the glass used. Handmade of recycled glass and sterling silver in the USA. Each pair sold separately.
Due to the reclaimed and handmade nature of these earrings, each piece will vary.
Exclusively at UncommonGoods.

- the maker
An avid antique glass and bottle collector, artist Laura Bergman lives near a wooded area with multiple antique bottle dumps. "It always bothered me how, as a collector, we take away the pretty whole bottles, but leave the broken pieces behind," she says.
After seeing a baby fawn laying among these pieces one day, and having had one of her dogs return from a walk with his feet cut, she decided to pick up the pieces of this lovely antique glass and use them to create jewelry and gifts.
Each of her pieces is handmade from 100% reclaimed antique glass from these dumps. Being a bottle collector for many years, Laura has researched and collected the history behind each type of glass. Each piece truly is "A Little Piece of History for You to Wear". collection
