A Foxy Fella

Treemoss--the name artist Travis Bruce Black gave this red fox--represents the surprising beauty that can be found in nature, even in the dead of winter. This sly and spry fellow sits next to a birch tree, all of which is painted in geometric chunks of color that are reminiscent of the ever-shifting view inside of a kaleidoscope. Made in Albuquerque, New Mexico.

location

New Mexico

Travis Bruce Black grew up in Michigan, where he studied fine art there with some extraordinary teachers. In 2005 he moved to Albuquerque to continue his education at the University of New Mexico. Afterward he and his wife Molly started a unique gallery in Old Town Albuquerque. During this 4 year project, Travis came to the realization that his craft wasn't reaching everyday people. Consequently he started focusing on nature paintings that had a universal subject from naturalistic world to act as a more open door for people while still allowing him to experiment with abstraction, color and structure. Black makes his living as a full time artist showing in galleries across the country. For Travis, living in the desert increased his appreciation for how precious and curious life and nature can be. His work became this oasis, the concentrated force of life, color and juiciness of nature.

Beautiful piece of art!

I have this hanging next to another piece by this artist- the two deer. They work well together (with the fox seemingly looking at the two deer). I get compliments on them all the time. They sit in my breakfast nook so I spend a lot of time with them, and do not get tired of them at all. The artist is sweet and included a little hand written note with the paintings. My sister gave me a gift certificate from Uncommon Goods- so glad I bought these little paintings with it!

We have this hanging in our livingroom and we love it. The colors are great and I happen to love foxes. I love that it is not just another framed piece, I like the way it looks on the wood block. This is the second piece I have purchased by this particular artist, I love them. I always get compliments on this and the other piece when people come over.
