Beads for a Better World

Handmade by artisans in Uganda, this lovely necklace transforms surplus material while empowering makers to rise above poverty through employment and education. The captivating cascade of beads is crafted from tightly rolled strips of recycled paper coated in varnish for strength and durability. Two strands are suspended from a single strand of brass accent beads with a lobster clasp and two-inch extender chain. The layered array of multicolored swirls makes an elegant statement paired with a sundress in the spring or a simple sweater in the fall—just not while you’re singin’ in the rain. Handmade in Uganda.

ANOTHER great buy from UG

I loved the details of how this very unusual necklace is made, as well as the artist's story of her dreams and hopes for making a better life for herself and her children. It's an extremely unusual, versatile, and solid necklace, and I get lots of compliments whenever I wear it. No one--including me--cam believe it's made out of paper! So cool.
