For Bob Krul, it all started with his love of oolong. The designer and tea connoisseur took a ten-day tea making tour to Taiwan to learn about the wonderful oolong teas from the Alishan high mountain region. Taiwan is known for its hand-cultivated oolong varieties based on tradition and individual tea grower expertise. Bob was under the direction of Thomas Shu, the Taiwan Tea Ambassador for the American farm community based in Los Angeles. After the tour, Bob stayed in Taiwan to study their steeping methods and equipment. The tour inspired him to make the tea drinking experience more personal by simplifying the design and steps associated with tea preparation.
