Kara Brook initially became a beekeeper to harvest wax to use in crafting her own encaustic, an ancient variety of wax-based paint, but soon discovered that her true passion lay in harvesting another precious gift from bees—that is, honey. She uses it, along with the lavender she grows on the side, to craft delicious treats and natural spa and beauty products, all while harboring a healthy appreciation for the little winged creatures that make her creative endeavors possible. “I live each day with gratitude and respect,” says Kara. “I’m honored and committed to host healthy beehives. If bees disappear, we can’t sustain our agriculture or our own survival.”
