Art, Meet Jewelry

In Ecuador, a tropical breeze knocks tagua nuts from palm trees. Paola Delgado collects the sturdy seeds, and transforms their organic shapes into colorful geometric ones. Her sustainable beads known as "vegetable ivory" feel reminiscent of a cubist painting (think: Picasso). They give an everyday outfit a graphic edge and pop of color. Finished with an adjustable cord, the versatile piece makes a thoughtful gift for environmentally minded or fashion forward friends. Handmade in Ecuador.

“I fell in love with tagua for the small nuances that make it special.”

Paola Delgado was working on Wall Street when she realized she wanted to do something more fulfilling. So she moved back to Peru, her home country, to search for inspiration. While traveling, she met a group of artisans making beautiful jewelry using Amazonian seeds, she knew she had found her calling. Today, Paola runs a small jewelry-making business using tagua nuts, a humane alternative to ivory. Since her team harvests the nuts after they’ve fallen, no damage is done to the rainforest or animals.
