Sunshine In a Jar

Now you can enjoy that same sunny radiance you love during the day, all night long! Although it's not quite the same brightness, this fresh-from-the-jar light is a great energy efficient way to softly light your home or garden.

Inside this traditional Mason jar lies a high tech solar cell, rechargeable battery and low energy LED lamps. During the day, place the jar in a sunlit area. The solar cell creates an electrical current that charges the battery over a few hours. That energy is then used at night to power the three LED lamps inside the jar. At night, the warm-colored LED lights will cast off a subtle, natural glow and will look like you have captured a tiny sun in the jar. The light sensor inside automatically activates the lights when it gets dark or lights are turned out.

Since Mason jars are water tight, this light makes a great addition to your garden. Buy a whole bunch and never have to worry about paying for outdoor lighting again. Made in China.

      Comments about Sun Jar:

The jar was much larger than I had expected. The on/off button inside is eay to find. I do have concerns about the hinges on the lid- they don't seem very sturdy if you plan on opening and closing it often. The cost is somewhat high, but since it is an unusual item that should be expected?? Overall, this is a great gift that I plan on purchasing again for others. It is unique and is quite lovely when illuminated.

          Comments about Sun Jar:

The instructions suck, but if you work past those, this is a neat thing. It will charge indoors in the sun. And the "on/off" switch is really a button to press/depress. It's not overly bright, but more like a strong nightlight. Great for dark corners, romantic illunination, safer than candles.

              Comments about Sun Jar:

This was a gift for my boss. She has a shop called Sunshine Studios. She might have thought that she every sun object, ornament and thingamajig, but I proved her wrong. Presenting her with "Sunshine in a Jar" made a touching and symbolic statement. Her business of 16 years has always been eco-friendly so this was also a reminder of her efforts to conserve. As a new mother this gift was perfect to use in her children's room. For anyone needing a little extra "Sunshine", this is a bright idea.

              Comments about Sun Jar:

Would have got a 5-star rating if it came with a higher capacity battery.(see below)

Nice soft glow on the deck at night. Much nicer than a harsh white light! :)

Do yourself a favor and replace the 700mAh NiMH 'AA' battery it comes with, with something else (I use a Duracell 2650mAh NiMH 'AA'). It's a bit brighter and lasts at least 4 times longer at full brightness before beginning to dim.

                Comments about Sun Jar:

It's a simple, but wonderful idea... charge it up with sunlight, then use it to counter the darkness of those bleak midwinter nights. It really is "sun in a jar..."

Keep in mind that it's more for decoration, not illumination. If you want a reading light, buy something else (though in a pinch, it could work...)
