The spectacular Sangre de Cristo mountain scenery from Alan Yarmark's San Luis Valley home inspires him to capture the beauty of the landscape in his pottery. Not content to represent nature through layers of glazes alone, he combines illustration with hand-built stoneware to create this scenic platter. After the platter's first firing, Alan transfers his rendering of mountains, lakes, and evergreens to a band in the center of the piece, "printed" on the stoneware with a black glaze. He applies a complementary blue-green glaze and fires the piece a second time to complete the bucolic composition. The distinctive server infused with rustic appeal makes a distinctive wedding gift and an heirloom in the making. Handmade in Villa Grove, Colorado.
