CoasterTrays are made in small workshops near Pittsburgh, PA. through the combination of traditional handcrafting, woodworking and finishing processes with advanced technology.
The designs are first developed on paper, then transferred to digital form and printed with specialized dyes onto a release paper, which is transferred to wooden panels with a 400 degree heat press so the colors become impregnated into the wood fibers and are then coated with a UV sealer to protect them from moisture. The panels are then cut into coasters with a high intensity laser cutter to ensure accuracy and a fine burnished edge.
These hardwood trays are made from local naturally harvested Appalachian Hard Maple and crafted by people who used to build fine pianos.
