The Dish on Sponges
Let's dish on sponges: they work wonders for scrubbing pots and pans, but tend to get grimy once they've sat around in the sink. How do you help them stay dry and clean while keeping the counter looking good in the process? That was the challenge posed to husband and wife ceramicists Karen and Stephen Steininger. Their answer was this ingenious, stoneware sponge holder. The vertical notches in its sides keep the sponge exposed to circulating air for faster evaporation, and hold it up out of any water that accumulates below. Plus, the attached saucer sports a spout to let you pour the collected water away in the sink. Its handcrafted, goblet-like form with swirling, applied decoration also makes it a beautiful addition to your countertop. Handmade in Altoona, Iowa.
