Cosmic Cruiser

Corrugated Lander to Mission Control: all systems are go, and we're ready for landing. Little astronauts and engineers can construct their own four-foot cosmic cruiser with this cardboard playhouse kit. Inspired by his inventive son, Ezra, Paul Justin designed this kit to launch a stellar DIY project and infinite missions of imaginative play. It includes 55 cardboard panels printed with out-of-this-world details and 75 plastic fasteners and tools to make spaceship construction a snap. For one or two makers, ages 6+ (4+ with adult supervision). Made in China.

It all began with Paul Justin's son, Ezra (then five years old). A born maker, each weekend Ezra would come to Paul with a new making project idea. One week it was a playhouse, the next a knight’s costume, then a robot, and on it went. With an endless and free supply of recycled cardboard, Ezra found frustration in using sticky tape, while his father sensed danger in using sharp blades near kids. So Paul set out to develop a construction system that helped kids independently bring their imagination to life--one that fused design, creative play, and sustainability. His original design has received numerous prestigious awards, including Red Dot (Germany), Good Design (Japan) and Core 77 (USA). Wired has called his construction system ‘the best toy ever.’

      I purchased two space pods for two events at two different schools - one Maker Fair and one Star Wars STEM day. They were amazing to make, with parents and kids getting together to get it done. The kids did astronaut masks to complete the look. Now each school has these in the drama room and in the library. They are big enough to be a fort-like quiet reading space for two kids or just fun for 2+. They got huge amounts of love all around.
