Still Life With Family

A typical family portrait would be just fine if your family was, well, typical. Welcome a new baby or celebrate your brood's special bond with this sweet, customizable sculpture by Melissa J. Gondek. Two parents sit with their children (up to three) snuggled close on their laps, displaying a love that Melissa describes as "at once intensely personal and still universal."

Keep this sentimental reminder of those you hold most dear on full display on an entryway table, or on your desk at work for when you need that extra bit of motivation. Melissa crafts each piece out of hydrostone (and love), and finishes it with a sleek black varnish. Handmade in California.

“I want my art to be about the positive links that make us happier and more fulfilled. I like to think I'm bringing more smiles into the world.”

When asked why her artwork has spread with such enthusiasm, Melissa Gondek says, "because I'm sculpting love, and everyone needs more of that." She began by making mud pies as a little girl but swears she only ate one once. As an adult, she attended art classes at the Corcoran College of Art and Design and at the Art League School in Alexandria, Virginia, but allowed the pursuit of a practical degree to guide her years at the University of Virginia. After two decades in the business world, Melissa seized the opportunity of a cross-country move to reignite her creative passions. Her playful figures now keep people company in more than eleven countries across four continents, although Antarctica continues to elude her. She enjoys trying to foxtrot and railing against historically inaccurate fiction, although rarely at the same time. She gets entirely too sentimental about weddings, TV shows about lost pets, and the wild bunnies living in her backyard.
