Born and raised in San Francisco, Jeanne McGee earned her BA from San Francisco State University, where she majored in art with a minor in biology. She went on to receive her MFA from the University of Wisconsin at Madison. At UW she studied printmaking, focusing strongly on woodcut prints. Her interest in nature and the rich and varied landscapes of the places she has lived, including California, Montana, Alaska and Wisconsin, have greatly influenced her work. The inspiration for her current work comes from a small collection of images from nature. Leaves, feathers, water and other natural forms are assembled together to create larger images. After a friend gave her some beautiful wood left over from a project, she decided to try to print on it and fell in love with the surface.
