From Sea Shore to Fridge Door

Add a touch of the New England seascape to your fridge, cabinet door, or bulletin board with these rare earth magnets. Neodymium is the most powerful magnetic material available and will easily hold the weight of the stone, as well as several sheets of thick paper. Each stone is washed smooth by years of tumbling with waves and sand, and no two are alike. For each stone "harvested" another rough quarry stone is "planted" in its place. Handmade in New Hampshire. Sold as a set of 4.

“Inspiration ambushes me anytime, anywhere, and I welcome it.”

Arra David and Anne Johnson want everyone to get stones. So the longtime New England residents replace each smooth rock they harvest from the water with a rough one from a quarry that will eventually become a worn beauty in its own right. (All the wood they use in their designs is ethically forested, too.) Once their bounty is gathered, they sit down with a group of dedicated artisans they lovingly call "rockers" to handcraft their uniquely beautiful household items and barware. "We all work together as a closely knit family," says Arra. "We all put our hearts, brains, muscles, and fingertips into everything we build."

We took a road trip to visit Anne and Arra in New Hampshire, where they welcomed us with hard cider and put us straight to work. See the whole story on our blog.

The item is great in that it is very unique and original. I bought several to give as Christmas stocking stuffers and they were very well received. But I know how much I paid for them, and I think they are very expensive for what they are. I decided to make some of my own, and I found those same magets for about .14 cents each, and river rocks, which are just as cool, are free. So, I can make them for about 20 cents each if I count the labor.

I think any purchaser of this product will agree that it was not what they expected once it arrived. Some may still be satisfied, however I was not. The stones are VERY small, I would say smaller than a quarter. All of very dull grey and brown colors. It looks as if I dug around in my back yard, found 4 small stones and glued a magnet to the back. Which I could do for MUCH less money! It may be a perfect gift for a minimalist, nature lover. But for those of us looking for something unique and different, I'd pass these by. They're very bland.

Comments about Sea Stone Rare Earth Magnets:

These magnets are different and are a good replacement for miscellaneous fridge magnets. I got them for my husband who wants to fridge to look neater and for the magnets to be more consistent. Right now it's a mish-mash.

Service and delivery comments:

Fast delivery, but one of the magnets came broken. I let a live chat rep know about it and within two days, I had a replacement.

Comments about Sea Stone Rare Earth Magnets:

These are little plain rock magnets. I love them. They have strong magnets that will hold some pretty heavy stuff. The perfect indoor use of nature.

Comments about Sea Stone Rare Earth Magnets:

The image and description suggest these are real stones but the 4 I received are so completely identical they have to be man-made. Also they are really boring dull gray ovals. Very disappointing.

Comments about Sea Stone Rare Earth Magnets:

I was really expecting these magnets to be bigger--the rocks are about the size of a quarter. I was thinking more along the lines of the size of rocks you see see as door pulls or wine stoppers. Given the size, I think they're overpriced, and I was disappointed. Here's where I'm a little contradictory: Although I wouldn't buy them again, I am glad I bought them once! :) They're very pretty, very nature-y. Also the magnets are super strong and useful. You'll have to decide for yourself! :)
