Without paper, some of the greatest stories may have never been told. This colorful elastic bracelet is carefully crafted by women in Uganda, who create its beads by rolling up bits of paper and sealing them with a clear varnish—a technique used throughout eastern Africa. They then accent the strand (each one is slightly different from the next) with a brass bar, giving the design an elevated touch.
Creating these pieces allow the women who make them to earn a sustainable wage, work in safe conditions, and have access to counseling, health care, and education. Handmade by artisans in Uganda.
Wear them with a sundress in the spring or a white t-shirt in the summer—just not with your birthday suit in the shower.
