Sea to Shining Sea

As the sun rises, light jumps across the water, glinting off every ripple and wave. Peter Katz's lamp mimics the beauty of watching daybreak from a sailboat. He handcrafts the design, laser-cutting an original illustration into birch. The result is four, mosaic-style pieces that he joins together using a special technique, fitting the pieces together like a complex puzzle without glue or nails. Turn the lamp on, and a "sun" pours through an indigo sea and pastel sky. The beautiful sight makes a great gift for sailors, beach lovers, and anyone whose happy place is the ocean at sunrise. Handmade in Colchester, Vermont.

location

Connecticut

Peter Katz sees the world as one big mosaic. The Vermont-based artist grew up in Connecticut, but his Costa Rican roots and travels to the tropics are what truly inspire his work. He says his pieces are a “visual representation of the philosophy we are all a part of: the oneness that has no true beginning or end.” You’ll notice the parts of nature he portrays are usually sea, sky, and forest or the "limitless" aspects of our world. When Peter isn't traveling to new, exciting places, you can find him creating in his studio in Colchester, Vermont.
