Bark Up The Right Tree.

The beauty of woodcraft and function grow together in this one-of-a-kind bowl, fashioned from the trunk of a mango wood tree. The flowing organic shape, delicate grain, and the warm hues of its unaltered bark distinguish this dense, ecologically forested trunk-turned-bowl. After 15 to 30 years, mango trees naturally stop bearing fruit, but after it's harvested and hand-carved, this malleable wood takes on a new life as a stunning home accent. The rich, sweeping grain of this hollowed out trunk make it a natural spot for snacks like mixed nuts or decorative accents like painted pinecones or potpourri.

When each mango tree is cut down, the roots remain intact to encourage regrowth. A sapling is also immediately planted to replace the harvested tree and to continue the cycle. Due to this careful process of harvesting and replanting, mango wood (or acacia) is a fully sustainable resource. This striking bowl comes from ecologically sound plantations, where no more trees are cut down than is ecologically permissible. Handmade in Thailand.

I LOVE this bowl. It was a birthday gift for my boyfriend's mom. I buy her gifts from uncommongoods every year & like so many other items that I have purchased in the past, this bowl is just so unique and gorgeous- especially in a rustic style home. Everyone always wonders where I find these amazing pieces.
The bowl is kept on a small table in the living room as a center piece and the only thing I should mention for future buyers is that lemons were kept in the bowl (still are) and a long vertical crack suddenly formed going down on one side of the bowl maybe a month after it was received. I am still giving this bowl 5 stars because it's gorgeous & I will simply never be sure if it cracked because of a defect OR because of the lemons that were kept inside/if someone simply dropped it and hasn't confessed! I'm not sure if it's possible for the acidity of the lemons to somehow seep through their skin and into the wood to cause the crack? My boyfriend is convinced that the lemons are the cause since the crack keeps getting longer. Also, the care/maintenance instructions were never followed- to wipe the wood with mineral oil. For those of you who are thinking of buying, the bowl is AMAZING! I highly recommend it. Just don't put lemons or any fruit in it! Stick to pine cones etc. as written in the details!

One month after receiving this as a Christmas gift I noticed a long crack in the bowl....the crack runs up the side and halfway into the bowl. I live alone...have never put anything into the bowl and it cracked...this was a gift from my niece. When she called customer service, they gave her a difficult time...she is young and inexperienced in terms of handling these situations....I plan on calling in the next few days as this is unacceptable. I love the bowl but cannot understand how this happened...it definitely was not dropped.
