This sleek, contemporary floor lamp fuses the future and the past. The ultra-modern design plays with contrasting texture, color and material, all within the constraints of a vertical cylinder. But while the style is forward-looking, it carries a nostalgic love of the past at its core: the horizontal lines of the base are created from a stack of vintage, 45 records. Rather than focusing on the musical aspect of the records, the layered black vinyl becomes a dynamic, geometric element, with their appearance seeming to shift depending on your perspective. An 8 foot cord gives you the freedom to position the lamp for greatest impact.
The genesis of this remarkable lamp began when Brooklyn-based designer Orlando Dominguez found a box of records being discarded by a radio station in his neighborhood. He rescued the records, and pondered them for more than a year before lighting upon this sophisticated hybrid of fine art and furniture accessory. Made in Brooklyn, New York.
