You will most certainly do a double-take when you see this unassuming cardboard box (we all did!). Handmade by Michel Harvey, this charming container is actually made of porcelain. From tiny wrinkles and folds, to staples and a strip of tape, the container amazingly repeats the subtle details of a real cardboard box. Perfect for pencils, pens, envelopes and more! Creator of the whimsical ceramic kraft paper bag and glove vases, Michel Harvey compares his work to that of a magician. "Nothing in his hand, nothing up his sleeves."

Raised in Quebec City, he studied design at the University of Quebec and Ceramics at Cegep of Montreal, and he now lives in Montreal.

His technique, like a magic wand, transforms common, anonymous, everyday objects info art forms that surprise, intrigue and amuse.

His main objective is to create a work of quality which is also pleasant to own, but which is able to do more - his handcrafted porcelain vases can hold water, plants and flowers.

If he were not an artist, he says he'd be a magician - "probably as good as David Copperfield."

Do a Double Take--is it really a carton?

I put sugar in one and artificial sweetener in the other 'carton'. For those of us who like trompe l'oeil and visual tricks, this is a great product. Eye catching on the dinner table---brings many a giggle. It would be even better if there was something similar that could be used as a cream pitcher. The opening at the top could be a little bit wider---it would make the 'carton' a little easier to use. But if one wanted to fill it with pencils, then the size is perfect.

It's a Porcelain Box that Holds Things

I bought this for my husband as a lighthearted Valentines Day gift. It's cute, and the cardboard-box thing is an inside joke for us. NOTE TO MEN: This would normally NOT make a good Valentines Day gift for your spouse/significant other. Don't get any ideas.

Very Cool

At first, I sat this on a piece of bubble wrap, with brown packing paper sticking out of the top as though the carton was just unpacked. Staging to the MAX!! But, I wanted to use it, so I put my sugar substitute packets in there. It is just the right size, even if you have to reach for the last packet. AND, it looks SOOOO COOL sitting on the counter.
