The Uncommon Goods Product Development team identified a problem inherent to serving pistachios—the mess produced by the discarded shells—and sought a design solution that was easy to present, serve, and clean. With guidance from our team, J.K. Adams developed and produced the Pistacho Pedestal. The design enables you to serve pistachios in the shell in a convenient and attractive way that incorporates space to dispose of the shells.

The J.K. Adams Company was founded in Dorset, VT in 1944, by Josiah Adams. In 1949, the Cooper family purchased the company and has owned it ever since. In the early years, the company produced wooden drafting equipment, slide rules, and surveying equipment. The company also did contract wood manufacturing and produced products such as wooden shoe shine boxes. As technology started to replace many of these products, the company started to design and manufacture cutting boards and other housewares. Some of the houseware innovations attributed to J.K. Adams are angled knife blocks, in-drawer knife racks and numerous innovative cutting board designs. The company now employs 48 people, many of whom have been with the company for over twenty years. The company has been from it founding and remains committed to operating in an environmentally and socially responsible manner.

My husband and I love pistachios There's always this put pistachios out in an empty dish for the shelves My daughter bought this for us two years ago for Christmas and it has been the best gift ever Only thing I wish is it came in a couple different sizes as quickly as we go through pistachios I will refill it often But this is a beautiful gift for anybody and we have enjoyed it 100%

nice looking, but hard to reach pistachio under pedestal

Received as a gift, nice looking, but hard to reach pistachio under the pedestal. The are underneath the pedistal which is not high enough to be able to access the nuts. Not very functional

While the lower, broader level provides a convenient spot to discard the shells—no need for a separate dish! Plus, the tiers come apart for easy disposal of the shells. I sent this as a gift. It's a good size and the family enjoys their pistachios! Maybe the product maker can make a darker version. Without the green? The green happens to work well in my case.

A great gift

I received this pistachio pedestal from my daughter a few years ago and have loved using it. It does a great job in holding nuts in their shells on the top and shells on the bottom. It comes apart in a second for dumping shells. When a good friend who loves pistachios saw it, I knew I had to give it to her and she loves it also. Inspired, I gave these pedastals to my siblings this Christmas and everyone loves this gift.

The Pistachio Pedestal is both elegant and convenient. Before I purchased it, I would have a container for the unopened pistachios and another container for the shells. That was both messy and inconvenient. Often shells ended up on the floor. With the Pistachio Pedestal, no mess, no inconvenience, just elegance! Just what I hoped for!

I purchased this pedestal for my pistachio-loving father's birthday. I chose a sweet inscription to be engraved, and this was everything I hoped it'd be! It's high time quality, nice to look at, and just the right size for a snack tray of pistachios. It's perfect for a party or even just to set out at your house for impromptu snacking. The only thing I would say is order this well in advance of when you want it. This took 3-4 weeks to finally reach me, but it was worth the wait! #sweepstakes

My husband is nuts about mixed nuts. Would this product work for mixed nuts in the shell (walnuts, cashews, brazil nuts, etc.)? Is there room to have a nut cracker and picks sticking out of the bottom portion? Or do you have another two bowl wooden product meant specifically for mixed nuts and their shells?

We're nuts about nuts too!! You can definitely fit smaller nuts like the cashews on the pedestal. As far as walnuts and other larger nuts it can probably be use for a decorative piece at that point. Consider the size of the pedestal its Top Piece: 6.5" L x 6.5" W x 1" H; Capacity: 8 oz of whole nuts. The entire Pistachio Pedestal: 9" L x 9" W x 2.2" H Doesn't really leave to much room. But you can always separate the two for more room.

Hi! Great question. The Pistachio Pedestal doesn't require any balancing, anchoring--or worrying--to keep it secured in its place while in use. The top section fits perfectly into the lower bottom section, so you can enjoy this pedestal without going nuts!
