Still Life

From miniature world virtuosos Michelle Inciarrano and Katy Maslow comes this clever moss-filled microcosm populated by a Lilliputian painter at work on his latest masterpiece. The whimsical "Petite Perspective" terrarium comes fully assembled in a glass apothecary jar and brings the serenity of a picturesque landscape to your home or office. In addition to this verdant sculpture's lush mosses, rich soil, and multi-colored stone foundation, a babbling brook serves to inspire the miniature Monet inside as well as those who peek inside his tranquil world. Handmade in Brooklyn, New York. Jar made in China.

Take a studio tour to see where Michelle and Katy bring their miniature nature scenes to life!

“Once the day is done, there is always beer in the fridge, chips and dip laying about, and stories to share.”

Good things come in small packages for Michelle Inciarrano and Katy Maslow, who founded Brooklyn-based Twig Terrariums together. “We are obsessed with making these miniature gardens, and do not understand any other way since we started,” says Michelle. “We revel in them.” The childhood friends, who lost touch with each other for a decade before reconnecting with craft nights, find the same joy in working together in their studio (complete with a 14-foot paper mache tree!). It’s a sense of lightness they like to share with their staff. They may work hard growing a small business, “but once the day is done,” says Michelle, “there is always beer in the fridge, chips and dip laying about, and stories to share.”

    Comments about PETITE PERSPECTIVE TERRARIUM:

I am by no means a green thumb but this terrarium is the easiest thing in the world to maintain. The figure is beautiful and adds such a nice touch to what would normally be a glass jar holding some grass. These ladies have a great talent for turning these terrariums into something so much more with the scenes they create.

        Comments about PETITE PERSPECTIVE TERRARIUM:

I know that the dimensions are listed on the website, but I didn't put two and two together - I was really surprised at how small this was.

When the terrarium arrives, it is packed extremely well (kudos there) but there is packing material on the inside of the terrarium too, which flattens the moss. You have to fluff up the moss when you unpack it. Furthermore, the moss I received looks nothing like the moss in the photo on the website.

When I unpacked it there were no instructions for how to set the terrarium up - I had no idea where to put the random rock that came with it and where to set up the figurine. The 'stream' is just a bunch of blue glass that was (and still is) scattered about the terrarium. It would have been helpful to receive some tips about where to place these items.

This is such a great concept, but it just doesn't ship well. The cost is far too high, in my opinion, and I'm definitely disappointed in this item. I'm aware that I can return this item and likely will.

        Service and delivery comments:

The terrarium arrived in great condition, though the box was full of packing peanuts which I spent the rest of the afternoon picking up after the cats jumped in the box and got covered with them.

The terrarium shipped and arrived much sooner than I expected.
