It takes a little while to get the mat, but you have to keep in mind that they custom print your word, name, whatever - on it.

Mine came rolled up in a box, and was well packaged for a mat. This makes a couple edges stick out for a few days, but I think they'll flatten out eventually.

Another reviewer mentioned the mat as being thin, and possibly insubstantial? I tend to agree. For some reason, when I looked at the description of the mat on the Uncommon Goods website, I thought it would be thicker. Maybe like the rubber of the mats in your gym? My mistake. After re-reading the description, We certainly aren't being misled, but the reviews usually tell the story a little better. The mat is very thin.

Does this mean it's not useful? No, it's still a cool looking do-hickey, and people will comment on it (if they're the type of people who notice floormats; you know - analysts, engineers, introverts...) The mat may absorb a little water, like from the bottom of your shoes after walking in the rain. But you got muddy feets? Fugged-about-it.

SO, keep in mind that this is meant to be more decorative than heavy duty, and you'll be OK when you get it in the mail.

ALTHOUGH THIS IDEA IS VISUALLY CLEVER, THE EXECUTION IS VERY BAD. THE MAT IS SIMPLY A PIECE OF FLAT COMPUTER-PRINTED THIN POLYESTER FABRIC OVER A 1 MM. THIN SHEET OF FLAT RUBBER BACKING. THERE IS NO TEXTURE OR STURDINESS TO IT AT ALL; IT IS VERY FLOPPY. IT IS DESCRIBED AS SUITABLE FOR INDOORS OR OUT- I WOULD DEFINITELY NOT PUT IT OUTSIDE. I HAVE DECIDED TO USE MINE ON THE BATHROOM FLOOR. IT LOOKS CUTE BUT DOES NOT ABSORB WATER, EITHER (IN FAIRNESS, IT IS NOT MEANT TO) .
SORRY I WASTED THE MONEY.

Comments about UncommonGoods Personalized Manhole Cover Doormat:

I think I would pass on this item. I thought it would be substantial in weight but it is flimsy and curls up so it won't lay flat. Looks cheap. The rubber backing is less than ¼ of an inch. I am really upset I bought this item.

This is a unique and well done mat .. If you don't expect to put this in a heavy traffic area it's great ! It is thin and flat ( it appears to be dimensional) and probably won't wear well with muddy boots erc. but it looks fabulous in the gym in front of the door and is a great conversation piece ! The lettering looks like it belongs and was there for 50 years ! My husband loved it ! I don't recommend this for outdoor use no matter what weather you live in ...

I bought this for my husband for Father's Day. Our (his) garage has the stainless steel, tread plate design rrefrig, tool bench, cabinets, etc...it is very industrial looking and very clean. This is a neat, personalized accent to all the other items there.
