Raised in Colorado, Fred Conlon now lives in Salt Lake City, Utah, where he makes garden sculptures out of recovered objects. Fred received his BA from the University of Utah and started Sugarpost in 1998. Sugarpost gets its name from its neighborhood in Salt Lake City—Sugar House—and its original location across the street from the post office.

fair wage

Sugarpost Inc. pays employees a starting wage of $14/hr., which exceeds Salt Lake County's living wage.

- Local (Utah State) minimum wage: $7.25
- Federal minimum wage: $7.25
- Living wage of Salt Lake County: $10.87

paid time off

40 hours of PTO is available after 1 year of employment. After 2 years of service, 80 hours is available, with a maximum of 96 hours PTO after 3 years.

recycling primary/secondary materials

At least 50% of primary material is upcycled. The rods are scrap steel (remnants from a local spring shop.) The leaves are precision cut out of scrap material. Every component is 100% recyclable.

charitable giving

Sugarpost works with everything from local fundraisers to the National Ability Center (NAC). They recently donated artwork that sold for $17,500 and donated over $25,000 in 2015 to various local groups and organizations.
