Time Apart

Part clock, part kinetic sculpture, this clever design by Arra David and Anne Johnson turns the concept of timekeeping on its head. Breaking out of the standard, circular clock case, the separated hour and minute hands spin independently on a sleek, cherry wood "face." Unlike traditional analog timekeepers, this one is open to artistic interpretation. Hang it vertically or horizontally to suit your style and available space. Two one-of-a-kind sea stones--hand-selected by the artists from the beaches of New England--are affixed to the Forest Stewardship Council certified cherry wood to ground the design in organic style. Handmade in Windham, New Hampshire.

Arra David and Anne Johnson are longtime New England rock hounds. Their love for Mother Nature's artwork in stone and hardwood inspires them to handcraft functional creations that bring the outdoors in. They craft each piece with attention to detail, quality, and respect for nature. Working with stone calls for custom fixtures and techniques. Arra is an engineer and serial inventor, and he says it's part of his "normal care and feeding" to put him in the workshop and let him make new products and tools. Anne is an artist with a keen eye for balance and harmony. She blends the endless varieties of nature's materials into pieces that decorate homes and will keep generations connected to their environment. To compensate for their impact on beaches and forests, Anne and Arra "plant" a new quarry stone in the water to replace each one gathered, and they plant ten times the number of trees harvested for their work.

Sea Stones Inc. was founded in 2003 in Windham, New Hampshire, near the rocky New England beaches and rivers that shape the stones used in their designs and inspire their designers. The company now employs 10 people and strives to create happy customers by celebrating the beauty of natural materials through novel design, sustainable practices, and fine American Craftsmanship.
