Hi,
Show your civic pride through the graphic and tactile appeal of these hand letterpressed prints. Like leaves, cities are organic entities with a supporting structure that branches out in many directions. Andrew Martis illustrates this analogy with his leaf-like letterpress prints representing cities and neighborhoods from across the country--from his home base of Brooklyn to Austin to San Francisco. Each intricate design shows the major neighborhoods of its locale as a network, forming an organically abstracted map in a leafy palette of natural color. Each cities nickname is included at the bottom of the print. Handmade in Los Angeles, California.
Brooklyn: "The Borough of Trees."
San Francisco: "The City by the Bay"
Austin: "The City of the Violet Crown"
Boston: "The City on a Hill"
Portland: "The City of Roses"
Chicago: "The Windy City"

Andrew Martis is a designer, illustrator and letterer based in Brooklyn, NY. He takes pride in making things by hand and in the aged aesthetic of work that stands the test of time. Andrew's idea for the Neighborhood Leaf Map originally stemmed from trying to map out all of the green spaces in individual cities. While working on a small portion of Brooklyn he and some fellow designers noticed that the plots all connected like veins of a leaf. He decided to branch out and do the entire city, this time with the various neighborhoods and connect them all. Fortunately, the organic shapes of each city lend themselves nicely to appearing as leaves with a little added roughening. What we ultimately wanted to communicate was that each of these cities have beautiful green qualities to them and are filled with great parks and natural spaces for their communities to enjoy. Andrew is compelled to make work that communicates and old idea in a clever and fun new way. He wanted to make a map that doesn't necessarily function the way a traditional map would but is something beautiful people can use as a tool for learning local geography and connect to your neighborhood. When Andrew is not knee-deep in design work you can find him riding his bike in search of his next cup of coffee or slice of pizza.

Comments about UncommonGoods Neighborhood Leaf Maps:
This was a much "cleaner" piece than I thought it would be. All of the details were correct, and the color of the leaf really pops. I'm framing it and giving it as a gift to my grandmother, who lived in Brooklyn for most of her life. I think she'll get a kick out of it, and it will add some lightness to her decor.

Hi ~ I purchased this map for my outdoorsy brother who moved to Boston a few years ago. The Emerson quote was something special that I thought he especially would enjoy. I just opened the packaging and the quote was not included on the map as it was supposed to be. Disappointed.

We got this for my brother in law, for Fathers Day...he lives in Brooklyn. What a fun piece of art...he loved it! Not your typical map of an area...it's really something that will be a conversation piece. Two thumbs up!

was a gift to someone in another state as a thank you for my recent visit to her. Her expression upon receipt was "it's awesome!" I can't comment on its quality or how it was received.
Comments about UncommonGoods Neighborhood Leaf Maps:
My niece moved to Brooklyn so I thought this would be a perfect house-warming gift. She agrees. Easy to read as she is schematically challenged. Runs in our family. Now she can find her way around Brooklyn,
