Worth Singing About

Science tells us that birds are dinosaurs, but that doesn't mean they're into Jurassic-era style. The winged hip set digs airy, contemporary designs, like David and Calvin Laituri's Modern Origami Bird Feeder. Crafted from light-gauge aluminum and powder-coated bright orange, it mimics the sleek, modern California architecture of a beachfront bungalow. It's small and light, yet tough enough to hold up to wind, weather, and the take-off forces of medium-sized birds. Shipped flat, it folds together in minutes, complete with a hardwood perch. Attach the included suction cup to your window, and chic, feathered creatures will patronize your cafe all day. Bird lovers, kids, and (indoor!) cats are sure to be mad about it. Made in Massachusetts.

Father-son duo Calvin and Dave Laituri had a mission: could they design innovative products using only resources within a 100-mile radius of their New England headquarters? This way they could minimize environmental impact, and also prove that high design isn’t restricted to the borders of New York or Los Angeles. It started with ideas: Dave has a background in industrial design and Calvin is the graphic design and illustration expert. Their products have strong function, but they are also stand-alone, stunning objects. In no time, the team built a loyal following, and they’ve been able to crowd-source nearly every idea in their creative minds.
