Power Plant

Mariana Folberg's lamp fuses nature and technology with illuminating results. She crafts each leaf of her glowing succulents individually, cutting them out and shaping them under heat into thick contours. When lit by the low-heat bulb hidden within their clay pot, the plants take on an ambient green light, while the pebbled "soil" radiates its own warm glow.

"Nothing is designed as meticulously as nature," Mariana says. When it comes to plants, "their shape and structure are designed to be perfectly functional." Her homage to nature's design makes charming, organic decor for a bedside table or bookshelf. Handmade in San Francisco, California.

“Nothing is designed as meticulously as nature”

Botany might seem like an unlikely inspiration for lighting, but for designer Mariana Folberg, it makes perfect sense. “Nothing is designed as meticulously as nature,” she says. When it comes to plants, “their shape and structure are designed to be perfectly functional, with each part perfectly in-sync and assisting the other.” That eco-inspired design philosophy was honed during her training at the Bezalel Academy of Art and Design in Jerusalem, and now she uses her skills for corporate clients and as a growing entrepreneur.
