On the Move
A cozy RV rests for the night underneath a forest of giant pines in Cathy Nichol's evocative depiction on life on the open road.
Cathy creates each vibrant artwork using beeswax encaustic paint. Used by ancient Greek and Egyptian portrait makers, encaustic is a centuries-old art making technique that uses melted colored beeswax to create glossy drawings. She then takes high-resolutions scans of the original paintings. She prints the images using an artisan printer and then adheres the prints onto the birch panels using acrylic medium. To finish, she uses a rubber-tipped tool to create an intriguing and one-of-a-kind texture. Handmade in Asheville, North Carolina, and signed by the artist.
