Handwoven Hope Basket

Rwandan craftswomen use traditional weaving techniques to make these baskets.

Bound by Hope

These handwoven baskets are just the right size for a centerpiece, fruit bowl, or ornamental wall hanging, but they also carry special meaning. In Rwanda, the lovingly made objects symbolize a wealth of friends, family, and life, so they're often given as gifts to celebrate major milestones such as weddings, births, and graduations.

Rwandan craftswomen use traditional weaving techniques to bind carefully dyed sisal fibers and sweet grass to make one-of-a-kind pieces. This particular basket bears a brilliant sunburst pattern, known as the "hope" design. Reflected on the Rwandan flag, the motif represents the country's collective hope for a new dawn and brighter future. It also means a lot to the weavers themselves, as each creation they sell increases their chances for a better life, including prosperity, community status, self-worth, and confidence. Handcrafted in Rwanda.

Due to the recycled and handmade nature of this item, each is unique and will vary.
