handmade mistletoe ornamentby Heather Shaw

The Gift of a Kiss
Kissing under the mistletoe is a sweet holiday tradition, but mistletoe itself can be pretty temperamental. It's hard to keep it looking fresh, and it can be poisonous if swallowed by children or pets.
This elegant ornament preserves the romance of mistletoe without any of the downside. A hemp fabric pillow is printed with a 19th century botanical illustration of mistletoe clusters, leaves and berries. From below hangs a ribbon tassel adorned with a plain wooden bead. The effect is simple and refined, and will look lovely hung in a doorway or from a light fixture. Handmade by Heather Shaw in Canada.

- the maker
Inspired by the concept of pillows as blank canvases, art history buff and textiles expert Heather Shaw set off on a crafty journey around 1995--and continues exploring her zeal for art and design with her whimsical line of embroidered pillows.
Inspired by natural materials, simple lines and soothing palettes, Shaw first explored stenciling and screen-printing motifs onto organic fabrics, finishing each piece with striking silhouettes of original embroidery. Since becoming a mother and an aunt, Shaw has integrated playful motifs and iconic childhood images into her work.
Shaw graduated with a degree in Textiles from art school in her native region of eastern Canada, where she currently handcrafts every whimsical pillow with care from the creative bunker of her home studio in Toronto. collection
