Drawn From Life
Drawing inspiration from her Ugandan-American heritage, entrepreneur Nasozi Kakembo works to bring Africa's vibrant textile design tradition to the rest of the world. Named after Kwame Nkrumah, Ghana's first president who oversaw the nation's independence from British colonization in 1957, this dazzling pillow also tells the beautiful story of an important leader. Locally known as Nkrumah's pencil, this textile features a lively ribbon of squiggles that are said to recall Nkrumah's energetic handwriting. Each thoughtful tribute is manufactured in Brooklyn, New York, from textiles designed and printed in West Africa.
